Here is a definition of the word “STRSS” as a noun: “a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.”
We all have felt/continue to feel “STRESS” at various points in our lives. These may include:
- Stressful situations/interactions at the work place
- Stressful issues involving our marital relations/family occurrences
- Feeling stressed about world events
- Stressing out about poor performance of our favorite sports teams
There are many other bullet points that may be added to the above list of “Stressors”. Whatever the cause, the physical manifestations of feeling stress may include:
- Poor sleep patterns
- Blood pressure and/or pulse going up
- Feeling anxious/panicky
- Being irritable
- Not enjoying being around other people or activities we usually like to engage in
Once again, there are many other bullet points that may be added to this list.
There are some stressors/situations that we cannot remove ourselves from. As an example, if the work we do brings lots of stress, it is difficult to immediately quit, unless the financial situation allows for this. Another example of stress that is difficult to walk away from: Dual working parents trying to figure out how to handle all of the children’s activities while performing well at their respective jobs.
However, there are some stressors that we CAN remove ourselves from, including:
- If watching the news stresses you out, do NOT keep the television on the news channels
- If watching your football team lose stresses you out, change team affiliations or do not watch the games
- If logging onto your retirement account portfolio daily stresses you out due to the day-to-day fluctuations, only check your accounts once a quarter
Many other items of stressors that we can remove ourselves from may be added to this list.
Feeling stressed out is NOT healthy for us so try as best you can to isolate the stressors that you CAN remove yourself from and then proceed to do just that: Remove yourself from stress.
When a researcher and a musical group teamed up with sound therapists from the British Academy of Sound Therapy, they claimed to compose a song that is scientifically proven to alleviate stress and anxiety. The track Weightless, by the band Marconi Union, has been dubbed, “the world’s most relaxing song.”
