Beware Of The New Generation Of “Cookies”

About a month ago we had family visiting that live in Toronto.  The daughters (age 5 and 11) were eager to go to Busch Gardens but their biggest desire: Go to a Crumbl Cookie store and come home with Crumbl Cookies and the box to show their friends.  Apparently, this franchise is not yet present in Canada but the reputation is huge amongst youngsters in Canada.  I had no idea of the popularity of this cookie franchise either in the U.S. or beyond our borders.

I have seen a bunch of new “Cookie Franchises” springing up in shopping centers including:

  • Insomnia Cookies
  • Ms. Fields Cookies
  • Cookies By Design
  • Cookie Dough Bliss and Creamery
  • Great American Cookies
  • Woops!

There are a number of commonalities to these cookie places, most notably being the “customization” of the cookies they can prepare for you.  Another commonality:  VERY expensive, with each cookie costing $5 or more dollars.

Let’s focus on Crumbl Cookie: each cookie has 720 calories—far more than a McDonald’s Big Mac (590 calories). It’s about as much as a Double Quarter Pounder with Cheese (740 calories). Each Milk Chocolate Chip Cookie also has a full day’s worth of saturated fat (20 grams) and 28 grams of added sugar (equal to 6½ teaspoons)

The point: These new generation cookie joints are hazardous to weight control efforts.  Not only are they a fortune of money but the nutritional contents are devastating to your efforts to shed the weight.  Beware of these cookie places…stay away!

And cookies have LOTS of sugar, sugar….enjoy The Archies.
