The expression, “ENJOYING THE FRUITS OF YOUR LABORS” can be traced back to the bible: Ecclesiastes 3:13 God grants you the ability to enjoy the fruits of your labor, which is a gift. As you engage in your daily tasks, remember that your work can be an act of worship.
This idiom has been used to implore people to take the time to enjoy the earnings/results of the hard work they have put in to achieve certain outcomes. I believe that 100% of anyone reading this entry has worked quite hard, and may continue to work very hard almost their entire lives. However, there comes a point when due to age, illness or other factors, we decide it is time to get off the hamster wheel of life and start enjoying travel, pursuing our hobbies more regularly, spending more time with our families etc.
There is no other more important barrier than for us to “enjoy the fruits of our labor” than a serious health condition. I have had so many patients (and a few family members) that worked their asses off their entire lives and then an illness occurred that prevented them from doing the travel and other fun activities they envisioned when they were toiling away.
It is vitally important that we all focus on our health to avoid that dreaded scenario of working our entire lives and then NOT having the time/health to enjoy the “fruits of our labor”. Giving in to immediate gratification food/drink sources that result in chronic weight control issues will most likely take away the enjoyment of those “fruits of our labor”. Stay focused on improving your health and take the necessary steps to ensure that you have plenty of time and good health to enjoy all the things you deserve out of life.
And here is a song about a “fruit”…not of our labor, but enjoy an oldie from Bobby Goldsboro…”Little Green Apples”.
