We have a dog and 2 cats that for the most part all get along splendidly. There are a number of instances when they all sort of team up to accomplish a mischievous event such as pulling food down from the kitchen table when no one is watching…the cats are able to jump on the table, knock it down and the dog gets to join the eat fest until such time as we recognize what is going on and end the shenanigans. I immediately thought of the idiom “Partners In Crime” the last time one of these occurrences took place.
So, the expression “Partners In Crime” often does not refer to actual criminal/illegal events that more that one person perpetuates. This usually refers to several people that are close with each other that often participate in various events together.
Now, to let’s narrow the concept of “Partners In Crime” to another person(s) that collaborate with you on eating/drinking ventures that damage your weight control efforts. Perhaps these “Partners In Crime” consist of your spouse, children, friends, colleagues at work, neighbors and/or others.
Are you the “Ring Leader” of these Partners In Crime, meaning that you are the one that initiates/suggests the deleterious eating/drinking behaviors or are you more of a follower? In either event, we all must take a step back and understand this concept: When other people join our excessive eating/drinking activities, it seems more acceptable than if we would do this alone. This is sort of a “herd mentality”.
During your long-term journey to better health and happiness try to “Partner” with your healthy minded friends/relatives that encourage exercise and healthy eating as opposed to behaviors that damage your health.
The TV show “Cheers” had a cast of people that would be considered “Partners In Crime”. Enjoy the theme song.
