I am writing this entry several days before the New Year and I know that many people have as their primary New Year’s resolution to lose weight. This is the major reason why we see so many advertisements online, TV and radio for weight loss programs, medications, products and exercise equipment. The marketing people from these companies know well that this is the time to strike.
Here are several of my recommendations as to how to gear up, get ready and take on your weight control issues:
- Make a list of the reasons why you want to lose weight. Some of these reasons may be related to health concerns, such as getting blood pressure and/or blood sugar under control, reduce your risk of developing diabetes, cancer or heart disease. Other reasons may be related to aesthetics and self-esteem such as looking younger, regaining energy, fitting into your more stylish clothes, etc.
Keep this list prominently displayed so you keep at the forefront of your mind why you are willing to opt for delayed gratification as opposed to the immediate gratification food and drink items that cause the weight control problems.
- Go into the pantry and freezer and take away the derailing food items that are readily available to you. If these items are not in the house, there is much less chance of reaching for them when you feel the compulsion
- Journal what you are eating: Studies have shown a 65% increase efficiency of weight control simply by writing down everything you eat/drink.
- Blow the dusty off the dietary plan we provided to you when you started our program and read/follow these recommendations outlined very clearly in the booklet: No rocket science here” Maximize lean proteins and vegetables, minimize carbs/sugars/starches and limit fruit.
- Keep alcohol off the radar or strictly minimize the use.
- Reach out for help if you would like a medical “jump-start” to help you get the ball rolling. Prescription meds such as semaglutide, tirzepatide or phentermine can speed up the process (Shameless self-promotion…I can help! 757-277-0107)
Losing weight helps people become much healthier and happier. Let’s get 2025 off to a great start! Have your “New You Coming Out” party! Enjoy Diana Ross.
