What Is Your “Prospicience”?

Every morning I wake up to a daily spam-ish e-mail called “Word Of The Day”.  This usually presents a word that none of us use in daily conversation and the meaning of this word is also not widely known.  Today the word is “prospicience” and the definition is quite simple: “FORESIGHT”.

This word prompted me to start thinking about our “prospicience” about our own health: What is our foresight about our own health future/destiny?

Lots of factors go into this view into the future including:

  • Our past medical history
  • Our current medical conditions
  • Our family history as this relates to serious medical conditions such as heart diseases, cancer, etc
  • Our lifestyle: do we smoke cigarettes, do drugs, drink excessive amounts of alcohol?
  • Our past and current body habitus: Are we overweight/obese?  Do we exercise regularly?

These, and other factors contribute to our “prospicience” about our future health.

If your “prospicience” predicts an unfavorable health future, then become proactive and take the steps needed to make this “prospicience” a more positive one.  Certainly we cannot change genetics and alter what our family history is of significant diseases, but ensuring a health weight and lifestyle will go a long way in changing what may have been devastating medical events into a much healthier and brighter future.

Who knows what tomorrow brings?  Maybe Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes in “Up Where We Belong”, the theme song from the 1982 “Officer And A Gentleman”.
