What Can Be Taken Off Your Plate?

I entitled this entry “WHAT CAN BE TAKEN OFF YOUR PLATE?”  but the “PLATE” I am referring to is not the dish we eat off of but rather, the proverbial array of responsibilities/activities we are engaged with on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.  When it comes to shedding weight, one of the key components is being able to focus on the necessary steps required such as:

  • Planning meals/snacks
  • Shopping for the required food/drink sources
  • Carving out exercise time

There are many, many other bullet points that may be added to this list.  Activities that we are involved with that take our attention away from our weight control focus will damage our ability to lose that weight.  A number of the activities we are involved with are quite necessary and cannot be “taken off our plate” such as:

  • Commuting/focusing on work
  • Attending to our children’s school and after school activities
  • Household chores such as lawn care, cleaning, etc

Similarly, many additional bullet points can be added to this list of necessary items on our “plates”.

BUT, take a step back and analyze whether there are other “things” on your “plate” that are not necessarily required such as:

  • Looking at videos and other stuff on social media sent to you by family/friends
  • Volunteering your time to parent/teacher groups or other activities
  • Feeling compelled to binge watch the next “great” Netflix series

During your long-term weight control journey take a step back and examine all of the “things’” on your “plate” that are not necessary.  Any minutes you spend on these activities are minutes NOT spent on focusing on your own health.

A large plate is a PLATTER…enjoy a real oldie from the Platters.
