Are You Taking The Easy Route?

For those of us that have lived more than 5 decades, we have seen the advent of incredible technology that has made life so much easier on a number of fronts.  Here are some examples:

  • No longer do we need to wait until the nightly news delivered by Walter Cronkite or Huntley/Brinkley:  We can look at our cell phones and get up to date on real time news delivered instantly…SO EASY
  • No longer do we need to unfold large maps to plot our trip route to reach the final destination.  Simply type in the address on our phone GPS and we will have a soft voice telling us every road and turn we need to make.  SO EASY
  • No longer do we need to call a taxi to get us from one place to the next:  Open up the Uber app and a car will be picking you up in several minutes.  SO EASY
  • No longer do we need to heat up food in an oven, sometimes taking lots of time.  Place the food in the microwave and the hot food comes out in a minute or two.  SO EASY

Now, let’s turn to the “EASY FACTOR” when it comes to eating and weight issues:

  • Buy microwavable meals and as opposed to spending lots of time preparing a meal, the family dinner is ready very quickly:  SO EASY
  • Open up the Door Dash app and order food for your family so you do not have to devote time to shopping, meal preparation and cooking:  SO EASY
  • Take a shot of Ozempic, feel less hungry so you eat less and lose weight without having to embark on lifestyle changes:  SO EASY

The point:  While certain things in our lives are made better by “SO EASY” means, when it comes to LONG TERM weight control, there is nothing “SO EASY” about the necessary steps that need to be taken.  We all need to put In LOTS of diligent work for weight control to be long-term.  If you are taking some sort of “SO EASY” route, I would bet that your chances for LONG TERM success in controlling weight will be quite low.

Take a step back and evaluate how you are approaching your weight control efforts and ensure as best as possible that you are enacting long-term behavioral changes as the center piece of your initiative.  This is NOT SO EASY but it can be done.

Enjoy Three Dog Night’s “EASY to Be Hard”.
