“ A Goal Without a Plan Is Just a Wish” This quote was from a French writer, Antoine de Saint-Exupery. He only lived 44 years and died during World War 2 in a plane crash. History lesson over for today but please keep reading!
Although Mr. Saint-Exupery was not a bariatrician, his quote holds great pertinence to the weight control arena. Here is what I mean:
People that have a weight control problem often have a goal in mind as to how much weight they want to lose. To reach and maintain this goal weight, there is no doubt that a plan is needed as to how to get there as well as to how to maintain that new, goal weight.
So, let’s examine the “plan” that is necessary to reach the weight loss goal. This plan must be comprehensive, robust, detailed and NOT simply “I am going on a diet”. The “plan” must include thoughts about what types of meals will be prepared, the snacks that will be included, shopping for the right types of foods, planning what will be done on vacations/business travel, planning and executing exercise time, etc., etc, etc.
Without extensive planning a weight loss goal will, indeed, be simply no more than something on a “wish list” that will have very low chances of ever transpiring. Planning is vitally important to a successful, long-term weight control journey. Make those plans and you will be rewarded with improved health and happiness.
