Making A List And Checking It Five Times

You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I’m telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town
He’s making a list
He’s checking it twice
He’s going to find out
Who’s naughty and nice, Santa Claus is coming to town

The above is the first stanza to the famous holiday song, “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town”.  The song was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie, recorded by the Harry Reser Band and became famous when Eddie Cantor sang the song on his radio show in 1934.  “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” has been covered by over 200 artists, including Michael Buble and The Jackson Five.

Okay, enough holiday music trivia and the point of today’s entry.  “Making lists” is an important tool for success in long-term weight control. These lists may include:

  • Shopping lists before going to the supermarket, ensuring that the dietary compatible foods are on that list and not the derailing ones
  • Listing the eating/drinking activities that derail your weight control efforts so you know what/where the “potholes” are in order to avoid them
  • Listing the major reasons why you want/need to control weight so you can look at this before engaging in deleterious eating/drinking behaviors
  • Listing the potential vacation spots being considered and then choosing the one that offers the “healthiest” venue

There are other “lists” that may help you change your behavior patterns in order to achieve the healthiest/happiest life possible.

So, Santa may make a list and he checks it twice but it is more important for YOU to make lists that help your weight control efforts and check it FIVE times to embed these in your brain.  By doing so, you will have a better chance of long-term weight control success.

And it looks like the “WINNER” of the best version of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” belongs to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band….enjoy!
