Put on those bell bottom jeans, the huckapoo shirts, platform shoes and let’s go back to the 1970’s.  The disco era brought lots of songs with it and one of the most popular ones was “More, More, More” performed by Andrea True.  Here is the interesting story behind the singer and song:  Ms. True actually started out as a porn actress with over 50 adult films to her credit but then transitioned into singing.  She was in Jamaica filming a commercial in 1975 but then a coup occurred and the new leaders of the country froze all foreigners assets from being moved out of Jamaica.  Ms. True then decided to invest the money she made from the commercial into a music studio, where she flew in the composer and other band members to finish writing and then recording “More, More, More”.  TRUE story (pardon the pun).

Okay, let’s turn away from stories about porn actresses turned singers and focus on weight control.  There are a number of reasons why a dietary approach focusing on high protein is important for aggressive weight control including:

  • Reduces appetite and cravings by reducing craving/appetite increasing hormones
  • Increases metabolism
  • Builds muscle (muscle burns more calories than fat)

The famous “Atkins Diet” proved that people could basically eat as much protein as they wanted, without limitation, and still lose lots of weight (if they did not eat any carbs).

Our Serotonin-Plus Program similarly focuses on high protein intake, albeit low fat as opposed to Atkins and “Keto” that promote higher fat intake.  One of the reasons we often find when a person is not losing weight aggressively is that the protein intake is not high enough.  This is especially true in the females we see that do not have a very high BMI but do have high percentage body fat.

So, during your long-term weight control journey try to find ways of getting that extra protein in.  This could come in the form of a hard boiled egg or deli meat as a snack, ensuring the protein portion you eat for lunch and dinner is 5 ounces or greater and going to restaurants that focus on protein dishes instead of pastas or other carbs.

When it comes to protein, eat “More, More, More”.  And now, enjoy Andrea True singing her very famous disco song.
