On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!

Remember when we were kids in gym class or playing with our friends outside (this, i.e. playing outside is obsolete as these days as the children are playing on their I-whatevers and spending their time on social media as opposed to exercising outside)?  When a race would begin, someone would shout out the phrase “On your mark, Get set, Go!!!”

On your mark, get set, go! is a “command” used to begin a competition. Originally, on your mark, get set, go! was used in the 1800s to begin foot races. The word mark referred to the place on the running course where the runner would start, whether a line or a set of starting blocks. Get set is a sort of warning that the signal to start running is about to occur.  The word go, of course, means that it is time to start running.

Focusing on the weight control arena, our journey to shed the weight should not be viewed as either a “race” or a “competition”.  However, please allow me to point out some pertinence of “On your mark, Get set, Go!” to our weight control journey:

On Your Mark: This refers to the “start” as to where you are when the journey begins.  Many people, frustrated with their weight, will purposefully avoid getting on a scale. However, it is very important that we all know the reality of what the weight is as well as what the body composition consists of (i.e. come in for your FREE body scan).

Get Set: In the weight control arena, the “get set” will be all about the planning and focus on the “game plan” needed for effective weight control.  Shopping for the right foods/snacks to have around the household, planning out meals in advance, placing a priority focus on “you” as opposed to being distracted with everyone/everything else…these “get set” activities and more are crucial components to effective weight control.

Go!!!:  Many people develop “paralysis by analysis” when it comes to embarking on a weight loss journey.  They are undecided as to what plan or program is right for them, when they should start, conflicting advice from the internet and friends etc.  This indecision results in no action being taken at all.  We all need to “GO!!!” at some point or else there is no chance of shedding that weight.

So, do YOU want to feel more energy, look years younger, lower your chances for developing serious disease and look great in your beautiful clothes?  On your mark, Get set, Go!!!
