We have all heard the expression: “PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE.” This dates back to the 1300’s when it was written in a poem called “Piers Plowman” written by William Langland. The meaning: The ability to wait for something without frustration is a useful skill and a good aspect of one’s personality.
Bringing this expression to the weight control arena certainly is pertinent. Human nature is such that we want immediacy in the things we desire. We would rather NOT wait for delivery of a new item for the house, being able to drive the new car we purchased and/or be delayed in getting the food we ordered at a restaurant. We want things NOW.
In the weight control field, similarly, we all want the weight off NOW. Frustration sets in if we do not see LOTS of weight coming off quickly. This frustration leads to the “I Give Up” mentality.
Patience is important when embarking on a weight control journey. The weight did not go on overnight and nor will it be lost overnight. Following a dietary plan of high protein/low carbohydrate intake, fitting in exercise time, avoiding alcohol and doing everything else that supports weight control will get you to your goal. Trust the process, stay committed and have PATIENCE along the way.
Oh, to another expression: “ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE THAT WAIT”. Nope…when it comes to weight control, do NOT “Wait”…get moving on this NOW.
And for those Guns & Roses fans out there, here is their hit “Patience”.
