Stay Away From…

During a long-term weight control journey there are a number of places/situations to “STAY AWAY FROM”.  Here are some of them:

  • Fast food restaurants:  I know, you take the burger off the bun, the eggs/sausage off the biscuit, you don’t order the fries, yada yada…the bottom line: entering a fast food restaurant will provide you no real “healthy” choices and you will be tempted to ingest the same foods that got you into the weight problem in the first place.  STAY AWAY!!!
  • “All You Can Eat/Drink ” scenarios such as buffets, all-inclusive resorts, drink packages on cruise ships, etc: The human nature factor kicks in and if we are paying for “All You an Eat and Drink”, we will, in fact, do some pretty major eating and drinking.  STAY AWAY!!!
  • Frozen foods sections of supermarkets:  It sure is convenient and fast to buy microwavable ready meals.  However, these are processed foods and the growth of processed food availability in our country mimics the growth of obesity in our nation.  STAY AWAY!!!
  • Gatherings of friends/colleagues that have functions based around lots of alcohol consumption:  I am certain you have certain groups of friends (this is not bashing boat people, book club or bonco playing groups, but…) that have alcohol first and foremost as the prize of the party whereas other groups, such as the running/bike club, yoga friends etc that center their activities on health and wellness.  STAY AWAY!!!

I believe there are many other “STAY AWAY FROM” scenarios that would be beneficial to your weight control success.  When you identify these, STAY AWAY!!!

Writing the term “STAY AWAY” made me think of a very old, hokey song from 1971 from “The Bells” called “Stay Awhile”.  If you are a boomer, listen to this song and I know you will laugh and think of old times.
