The Balancing Act

Here are some definitions of the word, “BALANCE”:

First, as a noun: a condition in which different elements are equal or in the correct proportions

Now, as a verb: offset or compare the value of (one thing) with another.

We all, to a large extent, involve the concept of “BALANCE” in our lives:

  • How much time we devote to work vs. personal issues
  • The amount of time we hang out with our family vs. time focusing on our own pursuits
  • How we balance our free time, i.e. activities such as exercise vs. sedentary relaxing activities

The time/energy/money we spend on “fun” things we like to do must be balanced with the activities/obligations we perform that drive the revenue to support the “fun” activities.

Now, specifically focusing on weight control: Life would not be very fun if all we did was obsess about every calorie coming into our mouths, what happens on the scale every 12 hours and/or solely being focused on weight control.

However, if we did not balance the “fun” stuff with focus on weight control, we may find ourselves being in precarious health situations that permanently take away the “fun” stuff.  It is very important that we enjoy what life has to offer and at the same time, be as healthy as possible to participate.

Take a step back and self-evaluate YOUR Balancing Act”.   If you find yourself not happy with your energy levels, how your clothes are fitting and other manifestations of poor weight control, you must consider changing the balance.

This has nothing to do with the topic above, but as I am writing this, I just became aware that the singer/songwriter Jimmy Buffet passed away last night at the age of 76.  He made lots of people happy with his songs.
