I am certain that many of you (including me) have a smart phone app that counts the steps you take in a day. A number of these steps taken are part of everyday life such as walking around your house, walking to the car, etc. And some of these steps may be “intentioned” from a exercise standpoint. We are encouraged to keep the step counts as high as possible as this would seem to translate into a number of health benefits.
A recent study was released from Australia that basically reviewed a number of studies conducted in different countries as to the health benefits of “steps”. 57 studies were analyzed from 2014-2025 and the conclusions are quite astounding: 7000 steps produce beneficial health effects equal to walking 10,000 or more steps a day. Death rates actually dropped almost 50% in those people walking 7000 steps a day. Increasing the amount of steps seemed to produce no additional benefits. Dementia, depression and heart health were helped significantly by walking 7000 steps (or more) a day.
The takeaway from this study: We do NOT need to spend hours a day walking, running, biking, playing pickle ball or other activities to improve our health. Simply walking 7000 steps a day produces tremendous health benefits that impact our lives in a very positive way.
Get those steps in daily!
And here is a STEPPENwolf song that will bring you back to the good old days. Born To Be Wild!
