Here is the nutritional content of a normal-size piece of cheesecake: Cheesecake contains 581 calories per 181 g serving. This serving contains 41 g of fat, 10 g of protein and 46 g of carbohydrate. The latter is 39 g sugar and 0.7 g of dietary fiber, the rest is complex carbohydrate. Cheesecake contains 18 g of saturated fat and 100 mg of cholesterol per serving.
Let’s look at M&Ms: ONE M&M contains 4.7 calories, 0.5 grams of total carbs and 0.15 grams of fat.
So, clearly, cheesecake is a MUCH more “dangerous” snack/dessert than an M&M, correct? Well, I believe that the M&M is MUCH more harmful to your weight control efforts than the piece of cheesecake. Here is the reason why: Who in the world actually eats only ONE M&M? Pretty much no one…we all, including me, will continually reach for more and more and more. This will occur to the point where entire package is finished. Unless you have one of those small packages, in totality, you may find yourself devouring lots more calories, carbs and fats than having that piece of cheesecake.
There are MANY other snacks that we can refer to as “Small and Repetitive” including:
- Popcorn
- Grapes
- Hershey kisses
- Trail mix
We must be very cognizant of the amount of these small, repetitive snacks that we allow to enter our mouths. This especially holds true for when we find ourselves in a distracted snacking mode, i.e. watching a sporting event or thrilling show, sitting at a movie theatre with that popcorn tub in your lap, snacking at the work desk while working etc.
Beware of the small snacks…eating lots of them will make YOU anything but small.
And for those popcorn eating movie lovers, and for inflation adjustment is the highest grossing film ever. (And this was my Mom and Dad’s first date) Enjoy the theme from ‘Gine With The Wind”.
