Breaking (Or Keeping) The Routine

Here is a definition of the word “ROUTINE”: a sequence of actions regularly followed; a fixed program.

Let’s face it, most of us are “creatures of habit”, i.e. we are very routinized in our behavioral patterns.  For many, there is lots of comfort in following our routines.  When we follow our routines, we sort of know what to expect and there are not many hidden/undesirous surprises.  When we follow a routine this also allows the people in our households to know what to expect as well.

Focusing on health/weight control: If the status of our weight is not ideal, clearly the “routines” being followed, as these relate to eating/exercise are NOT allowing us to be at optimal health.  Although we may think we are “eating clean/healthy” and getting lots of steps in a day as per our app, if the weight is not well controlled, these “routines” are detrimental.

Breaking habits (routines) is not easy, as mentioned above, there is a comfort factor to being in a routinized behavioral pattern.  However, breaking these routines is necessary to change the dynamics and bring our weight to more healthier levels.  The formula sounds simple: Increase lean protein intake, lower carbs/sugars and avoid alcohol.  However, if this was a simple routine to follow, 70% of our population would not be overweight/obese.

Please take a step back, evaluate your weight and other health parameters and if you come to the conclusion that there is plenty of room to go to optimize your health, then you must start breaking some of your routinized behaviors.  By doing so and developing new, healthier routines, you will live longer in a happier state of health.
