Here is a definition of the word “ENTITLEMENT”: the belief that one is inherently deserving of privileges or special treatment
Let’s bring this concept of “entitlement” to the behavioral aspects of our lives that impact weight control. For the majority of people, there are many daily tasks that are not considered “fun”, “self-focused” or in any other way, a “reward” for the things we do to support our families. Waking up early to tend to prep the children for school, commuting to work, putting up with stress and other factors at the job, coming home to attend to post school activities, getting a dinner prepared for the family and other tasks: Doing ALL of this creates a sense of “Entitlement”, i.e. we are deserving of some sort of “privilege or special treatment”.
The most readily available, immediate and relatively inexpensive “privilege or special treatment” is an alcohol containing drink(s), a high caloric snack, chocolate and/or a myriad of other consumables that derail our weight control efforts. We feel “Entitled” to partake of these things because we have worked so hard.
Another “Entitlement “ issue as this relates to our weight loss efforts: If we spend the entire week restricting alcohol, carbs and sugars, aren’t we “Entitled” to let loose on the weekends and enjoy those drinks, foods and snacks that we enjoy?
Let me put a spin on the issue of “Entitlement”: Given all of the dedicated, hard work you have put into your families and careers, you are “ENTITLED” to live a long, healthy life and have many years of enjoying the fruits of your labors. Successful weight control will help you fulfill this “ENTITLEMENT”.
And googling the most “ENTITLED” singer brought up J Lo as the number one…here is “Waiting For Tonight”.
