Here is a definition of the word “WANT”: have a desire to possess or do (something); wish for
Here is a definition of the word: “NEED”: require (something) because it is essential or very important.
We often interchange these words when we are on a mission to obtain/procure something: “Honey…I am heading out to Walmart because I want/need to buy some air filters.” In the case of air filters, we really NEED to buy new ones to keep our AC/heater units functioning optimally.
When we go to the supermarket, there are a number of “Needs” we have such as milk, eggs (despite those crazy prices), toilet paper, paper towel, etc etc. However, we sometimes return from the store with a bunch of items that we did not necessarily “Need” but rather, things we “Want”: Ice cream, cookies, crackers, etc etc.
During a long-term weight control journey it is important to distinguish between the consumables that we “Need” vs. those that we “Want”. Clearly, the “Needs” purchases will tend to be much more in line with our weight control efforts as opposed to the “Wants” that will derail our quest to shed weight.
And you get two songs today: The first is with a “Want” I the title and the second is a “Need” in the title.
