Concerning health/wellness issues, there are many steps we can take to try to optimize our health including:
- Losing weight and keeping the weight off
- Reducing/eliminating alcohol consumption
- Discontinuing smoking
- Ensuring better sleep patterns
- Reducing stress
- Going in for yearly checkups/lab testing
There are many other bullet points that can be added to the above list. However, many people feel it is “too late” to make these changes as perhaps the “damage” is already done. If the perception is that it is “too late” to make these changes then no attempts will be made.
In the case of a person diagnosed with end-stage, terminal lung cancer, it is probably “too late” for that person to stop cigarette smoking. However that example is dwarfed in frequency by people being diagnosed with “curable/treatable” diseases such as hypertension, early stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, back pain, early stage cancers etc. For that overwhelming majority of people, changing behaviors is (almost) NEVER “too late”.
Try to NOT fall into the “It’s Too Late” mindset. If you do, that will basically become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
And how can I NOT end this entry with the Carole King song?
