Is It Worth It?

Here is a definition of the word “WORTH”: the value of something measured by its qualities or by the esteem in which it is held

In the above definition the word “something” is the focus of the value (or worth) we ascribe to that “something”.

Let’s look at various aspects/things in our lives and the sacrifice we need to keep these close to us.  For example, what is the “WORTH” of our families?  Well, this is pretty much priceless and worth everything we have/can devote to maintain our families happy and healthy.  Our professions?  Certainly, these are WORTH lots to us, as they provide the means of us making our livings as well as providing us with a positive self-esteem.  How about material possessions such as houses, cars, etc?  Well, these all have a monetary value (worth) but can be replaced/exchanged for similar things.

Now, let’s look at the “WORTH” of our health.  The value of having good health cannot be measured as without this good health, we can be stripped of everything that has great worth to us.  However, let’s now turn to the foods/drinks that sabotage our good health.  What are these carbs, sugars, alcohol etc “WORTH” to us?  Well, if they take away our chances of good health their “WORTH” is negative, not positive.

When you find yourself snacking/drinking the items that make your weight, blood pressure and/or blood sugar go up, take a step back and ask yourself whether these are “WORTH” it?  Chances are that the intellectual parts of our brains will kick in and stop those behavior patterns.  Focus on the people and things in your life that are truly “WORTH IT”.

And although many Broadway shows may not be worth the price of the tickets, here is a tune from the Broadway revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Sunset Boulevard”, labelled as perhaps the best song he ever wrote.
