The Second Friday In July Is _________ Day

Okay, today’s entry requires a fill-in the blank, and my suspicion is that only a few, if any of you, can get this correctly.  Here is the answer:  The second Friday in July every year is called “National FRENCH FRIES Day”.  Many establishments offer free french fries (or reduced prices) on that very special day commemorating a food source that certainly adds lots of greatness to:

  • Burgers
  • Hot dogs
  • Steaks
  • Chicken sandwiches
  • Deli sandwiches
  • (fill in more)

And French Fries also adds lots more including (per medium serving):

  • 365 calories
  • 17 grams of fat
  • 48 grams of carbohydrates
  • 246 milligrams of sodium

Clearly, from looking at the nutritional content of French Fries, this is NOT a food source that is helpful to our weight control efforts.   On the contrary, including these as part of a dietary strategy will derail weight loss efforts.

From National “PANCAKE” to National “DONUT” to National “FRENCH FRIES” Day, it is kind of amazing to see days devoted to food sources that are contributing to higher risks of the diseases recognized by MONTHS including National DIABETES, BREAST CANCER, HEART (and other weight related co-morbidities)  months.

Take a pass on French Fries if you are trying to look and feel healthier/younger.

And although French fries taste better, a French song will make you feel better by listening.  Here is France’s Charles Trenents’ song , La Mer, popularized by Bobby Darin…Beyond The Sea.  (With a bonus of seeing Dick Clark)
