Okay, homework time: Take out a sheet of paper and pen and write down all of the food and drink sources that you have consumed AFTER 8 PM in the evenings. Here is my list:
- Ice cream
- Chocolate cake
- Coconut cake
- Double stuffed Oreo cookies
- Chocolate covered raisons
- Popcorn
- Pretzels
- Grapes
- Assorted other carb and sugar snacks
Perhaps your list may include wine, beer or other alcohol-containing cocktails
What is NOT on my list, and most likely NOT on yours include:
- Chicken
- Eggs
- Fish
- Steak
- Broccoli
- Other vegetables
The point: There is a high likelihood that anything and everything we consumer AFTER 8 PM in the evenings will be detrimental to our weight control efforts. Night time snacking is a behavioral pattern that often contributes greatly to poor weight control.
The solutions: 1- Do not consume anything (other than water) after 8 PM and 2- Do NOT have around the house those snack choices that you will be tempted to engage with after 8 PM.
